The Island’s telecommunications infrastructure is excellent thanks to an investment in excess of £1bn over the last decade. Residents and businesses benefit from highly resilient, subsea and underground networks for water, electricity and telecoms. At the same time, private sector investment of several hundred million pounds in the built environment has resulted in the development of high quality industrial, commercial and residential property.
he Island’s main telecommunications provider Manx Telecom, was also one of the first companies in the world to offer broadband ADSL services; the first to launch the super-fast HSDPA (3.5G) service and also the first to launch a Next Generation Network (NGN) at cost of £25 million. Over the last twenty years, Manx Telecom has invested nearly £120 million including £10 million on the Island’s only purpose-built data hosting centre and another £6 million on a high capacity off-Island MPLS network.
The Isle of Man Government offers generous financial incentives and support packages to qualifying businesses including:
- Up to 40% of costs of new buildings, building improvements, new plant and machinery, including hardware and software
- Up to 40% of non-recurring costs associated with the establishment of a project
- Up to 40% of the costs of specific new marketing ventures
- Up to 40% of the costs of implementing quality standards, energy conservation etc.
- Up to 40% of the cost of renting a factory from a private developer for the initial period of a new project
Transport links to and from the Island are excellent, with regular scheduled flights to many major UK airports available throughout the week. London is just over an hour away by air and the fast-craft ferry crossing to Liverpool takes around 2 hours.
